No "nature deficit disorder? here: On NOLS Adventure courses, teens learn real wilderness expedition skills while having fun and making friends for life.
IDAHO BACKPACKING ADVENTURE
FOR 14- AND 15-YEAR OLDS
Independence, responsibility, achievement and fun...these qualities
and more are the essence of this course. In a word: adventure. You'll
explore country you've only dreamed about. Whether you travel the
Wyoming Range, the Snake River Range, the Beaverheads, the
Beartooths or the Absarokas, the mountains will be unlike any classroom
you've ever experienced with their fresh air and fresh opportunities.
You'll learn skills-backpacking, cooking, camping and
navigation with a map-but you'll also learn things like how to turn
challenging situations into opportunities, how to get along with
your group, or how to be a leader even when you're following. This
course will give you the tools you'll need for a life of adventure in
the classroom or the wilderness. Adventure courses are not a kid's
version of other NOLS courses. You'll get the famous NOLS curriculum
taught by the same high quality instructors who teach for
NOLS in places like Patagonia and Alaska. And, as with every
NOLS course, these are field-based experiences where you'll travel
the country on foot and sleep under a blanket of stars.

TETON VALLEY
50-DAY ADVENTURE EXPEDITION
NEW!
FOR 14- AND 15-YEAR-OLDS
The ultimate in teenage adventure: 50 days away from home to see
wild places, do cool things and make new friends. This expedition
of a lifetime has five sections-backpacking, wilderness first aid certification,
rock climbing, rafting, and a student expedition-and all
of them leave plenty of time for just having fun in some amazing
places with your coursemates. In the wide open mountain ranges of
Idaho and Wyoming, on the famous Salmon River, and amidst the
hobgoblin crags of Idaho's City of Rocks, you'll immerse yourself in
the core NOLS curriculum and hone your technical skills. At the
end, you will put it all to the test on the student expedition when
you and a small group of your peers take the lead, camping and
traveling independently but with your instructors nearby. You will
come away from this course with stronger leadership and outdoor
skills, as well as a more developed environmental ethic, all of which
build the foundation for future outdoor adventures and are usable
every day at home. Be prepared to push your boundaries and discover
your capabilities. Are you ready for the challenge?
