Diversity Manager. Tania helps NOLS
seek a broader audience to participate in
and benefit from outdoor education. She
manages to complement her love of rock
climbing with its obvious counterpart,
classical orchestra music.
Curriculum Manager. Instructor since
1981. John develops NOLS' educational resources,
ensuring the school's 500 instructors
have the latest tools in wilderness education at
their fingertips. Of his many outdoor interests,
his local National Association for Search and
Rescue branch keeps him very busy.
Public Policy Director. Instructor since
2004. Jennifer, a 1988 Wind River Wilderness
graduate, oversees public policy and environmental
sustainability initiatives on a national
and international level to protect the vitality of
wilderness lands where NOLS operates.
WMI Curriculum Manager. Instructor
since 1973. Founder of the Wilderness
Risk Management Conference. Even
though he has taught wilderness medicine
in East Africa, New Zealand and Australia,
Tod still feels the Wind River Range is one of
the most exotic places on the planet.
NOLS Patagonia Director. Instructor since
1992. A child of the '80s, a native of Lander,
and a 1989 Wind River Mountaineering grad,
Judd has dedicated 18 years to NOLS and has
always valued the school's culture of excellence,
respect, communication and teamwork.
NOLS Instructor and WMI Instructor
since 2003. Growing up an Army brat, Liza
grew accustomed to change and challenges
and has collected a list of pursuits that reflect
her varied interests: degrees in history and education,
NOLS and WMI courses from Arizona
to Alaska, and, coming soon, a nursing degree.
Instructor since 2003. In addition to teaching
NOLS students in his favorite desert and
mountain classrooms, Oscar educates people
about wilderness ethics in his native Mexico.
In 2006, he earned NOLS' Field Staff Award
for his outstanding contributions in the field.
NOLS Teton Valley Director. Instructor
since 1989. Abby believes the skills students
learn at NOLS are truly universal.
From field instructor to branch director to
mom, Abby relies on her leadership, teamwork
and organizational skills daily.
Instructor since 2003. After working for
other wilderness programs, Becca came to
NOLS for its beautiful classrooms, extended
backcountry courses, and some of the best
winter camping around; this art history and
environmental studies major loves to ski!
Instructor since 1987. With a whopping 454
weeks in the field, KG recently earned NOLS'
Master of Outdoor Education Award. A certified
classroom teacher and native of Kenya,
his passions include training rescue teams
in the mountains of East Africa and guiding
through his expedition and safari business.
Risk Management, NOLS Professional
Training. Instructor since 1994. Liz loves
working for NOLS because it helps people
learn to make good decisions for themselves,
whatever situation they find themselves in.
Instructor since 1998. "Be a clarity-seeking
missile? is one of the philosophies by which
Vinay lives and teaches. The organization
and enthusiasm he brings to his courses rub
off on those around him and contribute to
the authentic NOLS India experience.
Risk Management Director. Instructor
since 1978. An avid cyclist and passionate
Nordic skier, Drew oversees safety, training
and research throughout the school and
helps lead the national Wilderness Risk
Managers Committee.
Instructor since 1999. "I wouldn't trade my
NOLS experiences for anything,? says Wendy,
who vowed to teach for the school after her
Semester in the Rockies in 1995. Besides rock
climbing and teaching, her passions include
sled dog racing, and she recently became the
first female Canadian Sled Dog champion.
Instructor since 2000. Duck is a river expert
who attributes NOLS founder Paul Petzoldt,
his time in the Marines, and rivers
themselves as his sources of inspiration. He
believes wild rivers can provide students
with the best of wilderness educations.
Instructor since 2003. With a degree in
environmental education and years of experience
canoeing, climbing, trekking, and
practicing yoga, Sarah loves to share her
passion for the wilderness with her students.
A native of Canada, she helped pioneer the
first NOLS Baffin Island course.
